Clinic Speaker for May 22: Nina M. Luppino
Clinic Speaker for May 29: Jacqueline Clark
An avid golfer, advocate for children and seeker of equality ... Jackie is a life long resident of East Orange, NJ for 69 years who has recently relocated to Monroe Twp., NJ. She is a proud product of the East Orange Public School System (Class of 1972) and a graduate of Howard University, Washington, O.C. (Class of 1976 and 1978). Always taking advantage of opportunities that enable her to make positive impacts, Jackie went back home to East Orange after graduation to realize her true destiny ... Teaching! Her career began in the East Orange School System, lasting 10 years and then in the South Orange/Maplewood School District for 25 years where she continued to touch the lives of countless students. She reminded them daily that they are the FUTURE and they must prepare now to be ready for the amazing possibilities that await them. Even during the summer months, Jackie worked to instill the gift of fun and friendship to children in the Essex County communities. She served as Director of the YWCA of Essex and West Hudson Day Camp Program for 4 years.
Sports have always been integral to Jackie's life. While attending Howard U., she was able to take full advantage of the newly instituted Title IX legislation allowing women and girls full access to sports and educational opportunities in all areas. Seizing the opportunity, Jackie became a member of the Inaugural Howard University Women's Basketball and Volleyball Teams {1974). This experience fueled her Student /Athlete mentality. She believes these experiences led and nurtured her dedication to pass these life lessons on to her students, young family members, friends and neighbors.
Beyond college sports, teaching, homemaking and raising her two children, Jackie was fortunate to find a new passion ... GOLF! After retiring in 2014, she focused on learning the intricacies of the game of golf and she continues to grow her game. Jackie is the current President of the Dufferettes of NJ Golf Club where she and 54 other likeminded ladies play, talk, travel, shop, learn and mostly give THANKS for the ability and opportunity to play a game that has no limits. The Dufferettes began in 1980 and continue to attract women of all ages. Currently our youngest member is 30 years old and our oldest is 92. They and everyone in between play weekly at Weequahic Golf Course in Newark and experience the supportive and sisterly relationship that comes with being a Dufferette.
Jackie has been married for 44 years to David E., has two children Lesley and David W. and one granddaughter, Savannah. Her motto: FAITH*FAMILY*FRIENDS continues to sustain her as she daily counts her blessings.
Dr. Beverly Harrison Honored with 2024 Sandy LaBauve Spirit Award
Dr. Beverly Harrison made a name for herself in the field of law, but for those who know her best, what she has done in her career pales in comparison to what she has done for girls through golf.
That’s because for nearly 20 years, Harrison has empowered hundreds of girls as the site director of LPGA*USGA Girls Golf of Greater Newark.
This dedication to developing future generations of women is just one of the many reasons why Harrison has been honored with the 2024 Sandy LaBauve Spirit Award.
Named after the founder of LPGA*USGA Girls Golf, the Sandy LaBauve Spirit Award honors an individual who has gone above and beyond to inspire the lives of juniors through their passion and dedication to empowering girls through golf. LaBauve was an LPGA Teaching Professional in Phoenix, Arizona, and a mother of two daughters when she founded Girls Golf in 1989.
